Maruti Suzuki and Mahindra hopeful in auto sector

The country's largest car makers, Maruti Suzuki India (Maruti Suzuki India) and Mahindra and Mahindra (Mahindra & Mahindra) on Wednesday reported that their car sales in the domestic market increased in December.  However Hyundai (Hyundai) and Toyota (Toyota) reported that their vehicle sales have declined.

Maruti Suzuki told the stock market on Wednesday that it sold 124,375 vehicles in the domestic market in December, compared to 121,479 units in the same month a year ago.  The company's total sales, including exports and other genuine equipment manufacturers (OEMs), rose to 133,296 vehicles in December.  Maruti registered a growth of 3.9 percent.

The company said that sales of mini-class vehicles, including Alto, fell by 13.6 percent to 23,883 units during the month under review.  However, sales of the compact category, including the New Wagon R (New WagonR), Swift (Swift), Celerio (Celerio) and Dzire (Dzire), rose nearly 28 percent to 65,673 units.

Sales of the mid-size sedan car Ciaz (Ciaz) rose 62.3 percent to 1,786 units.  Sales of utility vehicles, including Gipsy (Gypsy) and Ertiga (Ertiga), rose 17.7 percent to 23,808 units.  Maruti said that during April-December, its domestic sales fell nearly 17 percent to 11 lakh units.

Mahindra sales also increased in December

Domestic vehicle manufacturer Mahindra and Mahindra (Mahindra & Mahindra) (M&M) reported a one per cent increase in vehicle sales in the domestic market in December.  Increased sales of passenger and utility vehicles reduced the impact of the company's commercial vehicle sales.

Mahindra said in a briefing to the stock market on Wednesday that its vehicle sales in the domestic market rose to 37,081 units in December 2019.  A year ago in the same month, it sold 36,690 vehicles.  During this period, sales of passenger vehicles increased by four percent to 15,691 units, while sales of utility vehicles increased by 10 percent to 15,225 units.

However, Mahindra & Mahindra's commercial vehicle sales fell five per cent to 16,018 units due to sluggish economy and reduced rural consumption.

However, in December 2019, the company's vehicle exports fell 30 percent to 2,149 vehicles.  This brought the company's total sales down one percent to 39,230 vehicles.  The company's total domestic sales during April-December fell by 11 percent to 3.6 lakh vehicles, while the total sales fell 12 percent to 3.8 lakh units, with exports falling.

 MG Motor performed well

MG Motor India (MG Motor India) retails 3,021 units of Hector in the month of December.  MG Motor India said in a statement on Wednesday that the company has sold a total of 15,930 units since it started delivering vehicles from July.

Company director (sales) Rakesh Sidana said, "We have recently entered the Indian market. The rapid growth in sales shows how our first offering in the Indian market is getting the love of consumers.  And are working closely with local suppliers to increase production of Hector in 2020

MG Motor will start selling its new electric SUV car ZS EV (ZS EV) in the country from this month.  This is his second car in the Indian market.  The company currently has more than 150 service centers in the country and the company plans to increase the number of these centers to 250 by March 2020.
